Holliday Roadtrip '08

Okay, so here's the deal. When gas prices dropped drastically in the fall we decided it was our chance to take a road trip to the South to spend Christmas with Eric's Grandmother Brown. We managed to just escape Utah before "The Blizzard" of the season hit. While driving through Wyoming, Grace started vomiting (I've concluded from bad chocolate milk.) We stopped at this rest stop for some mandatory cleanup. Eric, always looking for a silver lining, pointed out how lucky we had been. After all, if Grace hadn't thrown up we wouldn't have been forced to pull off at this rest stop and would have never found this wonderful head statue of Abraham Lincoln. Moving on...
We stopped for a tour of Liberty Jail in Independence Missouri. Then visited the LDS Visitor Center in Independence where we where able to have some down time and the kids had a moment to play.

The next day we made our way to the Gateway Arch in St. Lois. We traveled to the top of the arch in a tiny, tiny alien elevator (no lie). (Honestly it freaked me out a little) The kids loved looking through the small windows and walking through the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial.

(Liz in the alien elevator)

Next, we traveled to Nashville, Tennessee to visit Eric's Uncle Bill and his family. We had a great visit. Eric was able to catch up with his cousins, there were lots of kids for our three to play with, and Aunt Pattie took Liz to visit an Amish settlement.

On our way to Castleberry, Alabama, we stopped in Birmingham at the McWayne Science Center where we spent a fun packed four hours and met up with Stephanie and Rowan as well as Grandma and Grandpa Ellis. The kids thoroughly enjoyed every minute!!

(Grace playing with a cloud machine)

(Laura in a fountain)

(Scott directs the building of the Gateway Arch, which he learned about just days before)

(Scott, Laura, Grace & Rowan)

(The girls in a tornado)

(Scott, having been deprived of any type of Lego or Knex for days, smells them out)

(The kids played in this tide machine forever!)
We spent a few days with Great Grandmother Brown, Aunt Jane, and Grandma and Grandpa Ellis over Christmas.
The day after Christmas, we traveled to Pensacola Beach, Florida for some much needed relaxation. Mostly we played in the sand. The kids got wet and we bought tourist t-shirts and ate fish. It was great fun!!

We then traveled to Mississippi to visit Eric's Uncle Edwin, Aunt Dianne, and his Aunt Clarice. Uncle Edwin had some great family videos to share. We truly appreciate his generosity.

And of course, when we finally arrived back home, the kids discovered Santa had come while we were gone. Overall, a great Christmas Vacation.
